The personal essay form is in vogue: writers like Vanessa Berry, Anwen Crawford, Eloise Grills, and Eda Gunaydin have invigorated essay writing, and are using their work to think through issues like: the ways we connect and do not connect with one another; memory; the body; the nonhuman; and the act of writing itself. This workshop will open one window onto the essay as it is currently practised, and focus on ways of writing in the form which develop both an intimate relationship with the reader, and also allow the writer to think through the things which concern them.
