Membership Day 2023

Dear members and writing friends.

Thank you to all who came to Members Day on Saturday and for making the day a great success.

We caught up with old friends and made new ones and, despite a bit of heat, it was a very enjoyable day.

Many congratulations to Laila Miller who won our members opening lines/paragraphs/stanzas competition with Chichester Park.

At the first round of voting all entries polled equally, but after encouraging for more votes we emerged with a clear winner.

Readings were given by Sue Braghieri for both her and member Daphne Milne’s published work in Night Parrot Press’s latest anthology, Three can keep a secret, along with Ally Millington who also read her published piece. Thank you all for sharing your work with us.

Ivy Bazley and Andrew Levett, from our Emerging Writers Program, read from their works and Andrew, along with Trine Larsen, conducted an informative Q&A on The Secrets of Storytelling, our novel course currently being run by Andrew on Sunday afternoons. The Peter Cowan Short story competition will open shortly and all those who came will have appreciated the tips given by Linda and Laura from Night Parrot Press regarding Flash Fiction, so I hope you’re all inspired to enter. Details will be on our website early March and members will be sent a reminder.

Linda and Laura were the big hit of the day and even though they got a little lost they now know where we are

Many thanks to the PCWC committee and volunteers for their organising, help, and support to make the day happen and to everyone who jumped in to help whenever needed. Thank you everyone.

Don’t forget our groups running at the house.

Creative Writing: 10 – 12 noon. 1st Saturday of every month. Next meeting March 4. If you would like to come and write at this time without following the prompts you are welcome to do so. Cost: $5.00.

Write In: 10 – 12 noon. 2nd Saturday of every month. Next meeting March 11. Cost: $5.00.

And a new Manuscript Development group is being developed. Details to follow in the coming months.

Without members PCWC doesn’t exist so thank you everyone for your support.

With our lives so busy these days it’s easy to forget writing matters. Whether you are writing full-time or for pleasure remember to make the time

Happy writing

Sharon
