Emerging Writers Program 2024/25
The Emerging Writers Program 2024-25 is facilitated by Writing WA in conjunction with five local writers’ centres, and generously funded by the State of Western Australia through the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries.

Brody Stevens
Genre: Young Adult
Brody Stevens has had a colourful career in both the building and music industries, alongside over a decade of volunteer service in the disability sector and with Ronald McDonald House at Perth's Children's Hospital. His writing achievements include having his short plays featured in the Adelaide Short Play Festival at the Fringe for several years, as well as being published by Night Parrot Press in their anthology, Three Can Keep a Secret. Recently, Brody was awarded a place in the 2024-2025 installment of Writing WA’s Emerging Writers Program. He is currently putting the final touches on his debut manuscript, Star Stuff. With the support of Writing WA and the Peter Cowan Writers Centre, Brody aims to get his manuscript publication-ready while also working on several other projects.
Elle Vidovich
Genre: Quirky Crime
Elle Vidovich is a creative copywriter and content specialist who holds a BA in Creative Writing from Monash University. She has written articles for recognised online publications and website copy for leading brands across Australia. Elle is currently working on a crime novel as a part of the Emerging Writers Program 2024/25.

Michaela Dawn
Genre: Young Adult
Michaela Dawn grew up in Jarrahdale, Western Australia, with State forest as her backyard and imaginative stories to spare. In 2022, she left veterinary nursing to pursue her writing aspirations and is currently studying Creative Writing at Curtin University. Michaela’s notable achievements are inclusion in the Hawkeye Publishing short story anthology Detours in 2023 and completion of Sasha Wasley's Path to Published mentorship program in 2024. Through the Emerging Writers Program and Peter Cowan Writers Centre, she hopes to polish two completed manuscripts and continue writing her third.

Raphael Farmer
Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Raphael Farmer is a Perth-based author who writes love stories between men. Originally from Mauritius, he has had short stories published in To Hold the Clouds (Centre for Stories, 2020), Project Postcards (Emerging Writers Festival, 2020) and Wave After Wave (Centre for Stories, 2019). Raphael has been profiled in Liminal magazine and holds a Bachelor of Communications from ECU.
In the Emerging Writers Program, Raphael will be working on a contemporary fiction novel for adults that follows the story of a gay Mauritian migrant looking for love, meaning and himself in the foreign land of Australia. Raphael’s contemporary novel explores themes of love, sexuality, cultural identity, found family, and hope.
