2015 Trudy Graham/Julie Lewis Literary Award for Prose (Closed)

The 2016 Trudy Graham-Julie Lewis Literary Award for Prose (Fiction or Non-Fiction) will be commencing on 24th June 2016.

Julie LewisThe competition has an open theme and entrants may submit prose up to a maximum of 2000 words. Entries must also be unpublished and not have received any previous awards or recognition in any other competition.

The competition also caters for youth with the ‘Judge’s Encouragement Award for Youth’ for young writers aged from 12-18 years to encourage and support the upcoming writers of the future.

The ‘Open’ category carries a $400 First Prize, with $200 for Second and $100 for Third Prize.

The ‘Judge’s Encouragement Award for Youth’ also has a prize of $100.

20TH Anniversary 600 Word Short Story or 40 Lines Poetry (CLOSED)

20th Anniversary

The Peter Cowan Writers Centre (PCWC) was pleased to announce the launch of a new, one-off multi genre competition (poetry or prose), centred on the Australian landscape, to celebrate PCWC’s 20th Anniversary.  This competition is closed.

Prizes and Awards:

First Prize $150
Second Prize $100
Third Prize $75
Rhyming Poetry Award $100
Novice Award $100
Youth Award $50

Four Highly Commended certificates and four Commended certificates will also be awarded to any stand-out entrants.

The theme for this competition was in honour of the PCWC namesake’s inspiring work and was open to entrants of all ages and abilities but who must be currently residing in Australia. Entries have to be a maximum of 600 words or 40 lines of poetry.

This competition is now CLOSED.

You are invited to join the conversation between the Joondalup Community Arts Association and the Peter Cowan Writers Centre. Please start the conversation by sending in an A4 page of writing, any type of writing – prose, poem, monologue, song, memoir or play.

Any genre, age and skill or proficiency is acceptable.

Cost: $5.00 per entry

The winning entries will be interpreted by an artist and made into an art work and displayed in the Joondalup Art Gallery for two weeks during the Twilight Markets at the end of November 2015.

2016 Patron’s Prize for Poets will be commencing on 15th April 2016

The competition has an open theme and entrants may submit poems up to a maximum of 50 lines. Entries must also be unpublished and not have received any previous awards or recognition in any other competition.

In addition to the ‘Open’ category open to all writers, the Centre has established a new category for 2015 entitled the ‘Novice Poet Award’. To be eligible for this category the poet must have never won a poetry competition.

The ‘Novice Poet Award’ is to encourage beginning and fledgling poets to enter who may feel they have no chance against established poets entering the ‘Open’ category.

The competition also caters for youth with the ‘Judge’s Encouragement Award for Youth’ for young poets aged from 12-18 years to encourage and support the upcoming poets of the future.

The ‘Open’ category carries a $200 First Prize, with $100 for Second and $50 for Third Prize.

The ‘Novice Award’ is $50 and the ‘Judge’s Encouragement Award for Youth’ also has a prize of $50.

There are also four, Highly Commended and four Commended Certificates to be awarded in the competition.

Entry fees $10 each $20 for three entries $30 for five entries.

Entries will close on the 10th June 2016.

 

2015 Peter Cowan 600 Word Short Story Competition (CLOSED)

The 2016 Peter Cowan 600 Word Short Story Competition will commence on 12th February 2016.

The competition has an open theme and entrants may submit stories up to a maximum of 600 words.  Entries must also be unpublished and not have received any previous awards or recognition in any other competition.

In addition to the ‘Open’ category open to all writers, the Centre has established a new category for 2015 entitled the ‘Novice Writer Award’. To be eligible for this category the writer must have never won a prose competition.

The ‘Julian Cowan Youth Award’ prize is $100 which has been donated by Mrs. Diana Cowan.

There are also four, Highly Commended and four Commended Certificates to be awarded in the competition.
