Members Achievements in 2018

Our members have been busy this year achieving awards and the Peter Cowan Writers Centre would like to congratulate them all for their great wins!

May to June 2018

Congratulations to member Charles Page, author of Wings of Valour, he had an article published in The Weekend West. The article ‘Memories Keep Candles Burning’ was published in the issue distributed on 26th-27th May, on page 102 – 103 in the Agenda Section. The article was about Lancaster Wireless/Air Gunner Phillip Smith, who was killed 20th November 1944.

Congratulations to Life member Glen Phillips, in association with Wild Weeds Press, who launched his book of ‘Collected Poems from 1968-2018’. KSP Writers’ Centre held a special event in July in honour of the book release.

 

 

July to August 2018

 

Congratulations to member Hannah van Didden, for her recent win for her short story ‘Between Shelves’ in the PMI Victorian History Library Short Story Award.

Hannah was also long-listed for the Hummingbird Prize for Flash Fiction for her flash fiction ‘Warning signs on the way back’.

  

Congratulations to member Rita Tognini, for her published prose and poems. Rita had four poems published in Creatrix, in issue #40 March and #41 June. Cuttlefish published her poem ‘Los Angeles Voices’ in issue #2 June.

Landscapes: the Journal of the International Centre for Landscape and Language published her poem ‘Hyde Park, Perth’ in Vol. 8, Issue 1, 30 March.

Studio, The Exhibition Award Edition, No 142 published Rita’s poem ‘Speculative Sestina’, and her creative non-fiction piece ‘Middle Kingdom Collage’.

September to October 2018

Congratulations to Life member Glen Phillips, for being invited to be a guest at next year’s Writers Week, Perth Festival 2019.

Congratulations to members; Shey Marque, Gary De Piazzi, Meryl Manoy, Ross Jackson, Rita Tognini, and Glen Phillips for having their poems projected on the Big Screen at the Perth Cultural Centre.

November to December 2018

Congratulations to member Susan Braghieri, for her non-fiction piece, ‘The Sword Dance’. This has been accepted for the Love and Loss book, to be published in April 2020 by Exisle Publishing’s Emotional Inheritance imprint. The book will be distributed in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

 

Congratulations to member Rita Tognini, for her win in KSP’s 2018 Short Fiction Awards. Rita’s piece Extras’ placed 2nd in the Open Section. 

Congratulations to life member Gayle Malloy who’s memoir piece ‘Mirrors’ has been accepted for the ‘Struggle and Success’ book to be published in April 2020 by Exisle Publishing’s Emotional Inheritance imprint. The book will be distributed in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Gayle is also a participant in the centre’s Emerging Writers’ Pilot Publishing Program.
